Duck Island on Lake Minnetonka

Duck Island is a small island in Gideon Bay on the Lower Lake, west of Frog Island. It belongs to the close, sheltered geography near Tonka Bay and Excelsior, where marinas, shoreline homes and small landforms share the same stretch of water.

The lake map identifies Duck and Frog separately. That is the useful starting point: two nearby islands, each with its own place in the bay.

The surviving histories offer little about Duck Island's early ownership or the origin of its name. They do not establish whether it is entirely natural or was affected by dredging. Its present ownership and public access have also not been confirmed, so it should not be described as a public park or landing.

For a home on Gideon Bay, the view toward Duck Island is one part of the setting. The home's own shoreline, dock and relationship to the bay's boating activity will tell you more about living there.
