Goose Island on Lake Minnetonka
Goose Island, also known as Wild Goose Island and Wild Goose Chase Island, lies just north of Spray Island and south of Pelican Island. It sits outside the southern opening of Spring Park Bay on the Upper Lake. All three names refer to this same small island.
From summer villa to parkland
An 1884 lake directory describes a summer villa here belonging to a visitor from Missouri. Later histories give differing versions of the owner's name, so that part of the story remains unsettled. The early residence is a reminder that even the lake's smaller islands had a place in its summer resort years.
Today, the roughly three-acre island is public parkland managed by Three Rivers Park District. It is designated for day use, with no overnight camping. Its public status distinguishes it from neighboring Spray Island.
For nearby waterfront homeowners, this little group of islands helps give the approach to Spring Park Bay its character. Goose is a place to visit during the day rather than a residential island neighborhood.
