Pelican Island on Lake Minnetonka

Pelican Island is a small islet south of Pelican Point, near the approach to Spring Park Bay on the Upper Lake. Goose Island lies farther south, with Spray Island beyond it.

The island and Pelican Point are separate features on the lake map. That distinction matters when identifying a shoreline property or describing the view from this part of the lake.

Its small size has left it with a much thinner written history than nearby Phelps Island. The available histories do not establish an early owner, a documented origin for the name or whether the landform was altered by dredging. A bird name is suggestive, but it is not enough to supply a history.

Public access and present ownership have not been confirmed. For buyers looking around Spring Park Bay, Pelican Island is best understood as a landmark in the water; the surrounding mainland and larger island neighborhoods provide the residential setting.
